In the video Prairie Style is was interesting and enjoyable to learn more about Frank Lloyd Wright. Learning about him has been very interesting and enjoyable. I think that he is a great architect and the creations of homes that he has done is great. He believes that time, place and landscape is the major factor while reflecting the next creation. Classical architecture is also an interesting video, it was interesting to see how places such as the white house, monuments and historical structure in Rome and Greece were created. It was also interesting to learn about how ancient architecture in Rome and Greece have influenced architects even now today. Architecture: The Science of Design was also an interesting video. It was interesting to learn about buildings such as the sky scrapper are created with metal skeletons. It was also interesting to learn about super and sub structures and how they are used in building. I also learned about how wind plays a crucial factor within architecture. I never really thought about how wind speed can cause a building to have structural damage. Also learning about how concrete is usually laid under the foundation was cool. Also how in many cities building's are built up opposed to vertical because of the unavailability of space. The last video I watched was Frank Gehry: Architecture as Art. This video was interesting because it discussed how many architects usually respond to people, place or time while creating new art. It was also interesting to learn about the preparation that is used while creating a building. It was cool to see how originally it starts with just sketches on a piece of paper, then it is created in miniature form on a table and presented to person wanting this building and the final step of actually building the architecture.
All four of the video's related somehow to the readings in chapter 13. The prairie style was also mentioned within the text and Frank Lloyd Wright was discussed. Classical architecture was discussed within the text as part of the ancient Greece and Roman times and how it is still influenced today. The science of design was also briefly discussed about how concrete, metal and steel are used in architecture. And finally Frank Gehry was not mentioned within the text but was way the video described architecture and how is it created was talked about.
I enjoyed watching the video's this week. I thought that all the video's were different but similar in the same aspect. I enjoy learning about architecture because I think that it is interesting learning about how things are created and ways that architects get their inspiration to create the pieces that they do. I also really enjoyed learning about Frank Lloyd Wright. I think that his architecture is very interesting and would enjoy seeing more of it.
I choose Frank Gehry: Architecture as Art because I enjoyed learning about Frank Lloyd Wright and thought the Gehry would be the same kind of architect. After watching the video I very much enjoyed it and learning the structure behind building and enjoyed learning about how he gets his inspiration. It was also interesting to learn about some of this bibliography. Learning that he was born in Toronto but moved to California to pursue a career in architecture at the University of Southern California. The thing I enjoyed learning about the most was how the process is done of creating a building. First sketches then mini architecture and then the final product of the building or home that is being created.
